Woman arrested in theft at hotel
Police arrested a 49-year-old woman in Waikiki yesterday after she allegedly stole a handbag from a hotel room while a guest was asleep.
Police said the victim, a 25-year-old woman, went to sleep at 7 a.m. and woke up at 1 p.m. Friday and noticed her handbag missing from her room. Police say the woman notified hotel security and saw the suspect leave the hotel with her bag on a video surveillance tape.
The woman saw the suspect yesterday in Waikiki and confronted her about the theft, and police were able to arrest the suspect.
Hiker killed in fall was Honokaa teen
HILO » Police identified a boy who died of injuries received in a fall Thursday as Shea Walling, 17, of Honokaa.
Police say Walling fell about 80 to 90 feet down Mamaewa Gulch off Kohala Mountain Road in South Kohala.
A 16-year-old boy who was a hiking companion also fell, suffering cracked ribs and several scrapes.
Fire rescue personnel took Walling and two hiking companions from the gulch.
Walling was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Man, 49, charged in girl's sex assault
A 49-year-old Ewa Beach man was charged yesterday with nine counts of third-degree sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.
Urbaldo Cruz was being held on $50,000 bail after the girl reported he touched her inappropriately, police said.
