Leilehua returns to OIA Red final

Andrew Manley and the Leilehua Mules suffered through a disappointing loss in the OIA Red semifinals against Farrington last year.
They weren't about to go through that again.
Manley completed 15 of 23 passes for 175 yards and Kamana Akagi had eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown as the Mules defeated the Governors 9-7 last night at Aloha Stadium.
Leilehua advances to play Kahuku next week for the OIA championship. The two teams have combined to win the last six OIA titles, with the Red Raiders owning five of them. Leilehua's only win came in 2007, during Manley's sophomore season.
The Mules went on to win the state championship that year.
Farrington tried to ride the legs of running back Harry Tuimaseve, who handled the bulk of the Governors offense.
Tuimaseve rushed for 138 yards on 26 carries as Farrington outrushed the Mules 221 to minus-15.
The Governors were shut out until the final 4 minutes. After a 54-yard run by Siaosi Feleunga, quarterback Jared Hakuole found Ranold Williams for a 14-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 9-7.
The Govs got the ball back one last time after VJ Fehoko sacked Manley on third down. But on fourth down, Sly Izumigawa knocked down Hakuole's pass to seal the win.
The first half ended in a barrage of weird plays, started by a blocked field goal that was returned 77 yards by Leilehua's Kasey Dukes for an apparent touchdown.
However, it didn't stand, as an illegal block in the back was called on the return.
Then, after Leilehua's coaching staff was whistled for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Manley went to take a knee to end the half, but fumbled the snap.
Farrington's Seth Ilae came up with the ball with 2 seconds showing on the clock. But after Farrington's field-goal unit trotted onto the field, the referees signaled the half was over, and Leilehua went into intermission leading 3-0.
The Governors will play Castle next week for the OIA's third and final berth in the state tournament.
