Kaneohe fire ruins home and displaces family of 4
POSTED: Saturday, October 31, 2009
An early-morning fire destroyed one home, displacing a family of four, and damaged another house in Kaneohe yesterday.
Firefighters were called at 6:47 a.m. to the property at 45-906 Anoi Road, which contains several houses. One home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, so they concentrated efforts on the second house, 50 feet away, where the fire had spread, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
The blaze was under control by 7 a.m., he said.
The sole occupant of the second home injured his hand slightly while fleeing the flames; however, the injury was not serious and he declined treatment, Seelig said.

The first home, where the fire started, was destroyed but was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The Red Cross has responded to assist the displaced family of two adults and two children.
Seelig said the damage to the first home and contents was about $500,000. Damage to the second home was contained to the exterior and estimated at about $100,000, he said.
About 20 firefighters responded to the call. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
