High-surf notice issued for 4 isles
POSTED: Saturday, October 31, 2009
A high-surf advisory for Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Molokai is in effect throughout the weekend, forecasters said.
The high surf comes from a northwest swell gene- rated by a former typhoon.
High surf will first affect Kauai and build throughout today, with large surf reaching Maui later this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. The peak of the swell will be early tomorrow, forecasters said.
“;Surf on north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai will rise to 12 to 15 feet Saturday morning and then increase to 10 to 15 feet on the other islands exposed to the northwest swell Saturday afternoon and evening,”; the weather service said yesterday.
The advisory lasts from 6 a.m. today to 6 p.m. Monday and covers the North Shore and Windward coast of Oahu.
A high-surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion, according to the weather service.
