ASU's Lauvao on a streak
POSTED: Thursday, October 29, 2009
Shawn Lauvao has one impressive streak that's still going, but it's another he wants to start that consumes his attention.
The 2005 Farrington graduate, will start his 29th straight game on the offensive line for Arizona State on Saturday when the Sun Devils face California in a crucial game for both teams.
ASU (4-3, 2-2 Pac-10) is hovering above the .500 mark that would make it eligible for a bowl game, but needs to win two of its final five games to get there.
It's a daunting task, considering the Sun Devils still have to face No. 4 USC, No. 10 Oregon and No. 23 Arizona.
Arizona State made four consecutive bowl games before missing out last year.
Lauvao will need to help block California's Tyson Alualu (Saint Louis '05) for ASU to have a chance.
Alualu is coming off a big game against Washington State last Saturday, finishing with five tackles and a pass breakup. Lauvao could also spend time blocking redshirt freshman Aaron Tipoti (Word of Life '08).
