Higgins commits to Utah State

Saint Louis School quarterback Jeremy Higgins has given Utah State an oral commitment to play football there next fall.

Higgins, one of the state's top passers, racked up a season-high 391 yards and six touchdowns in a game against Waianae this season.

“;He's an athletic kid who understands the game a lot,”; coach John Hao said. “;He does have the ability to read and see things before they happen.”;

The Crusaders face first-place Kamehameha on Saturday without two players who were suspended following a late-game incident with Damien. One of Damien's players was also suspended.

Junior 'Bows enjoy the ride

Coach Walt Quitan calls it a “;minor miracle.”;

University High had a horrendous start to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu season, but finished strong and qualified for the state volleyball tourney with a remarkable comeback win at La Pietra last week.

“;La Pietra served so tough and took us out of our passing system. It was pretty bleak, but the experience of coming back the day before (against St. Francis) helped,”; Quitan said. “;We figured out how to win at the end and that was a big turnaround.”;

University (13-10), a team that had no gym to practice in until the past few weeks, grasped the third and final Division II state berth from the ILH. The Junior Rainbows play Honokaa in the states today.
