Woman is charged in stolen-check case

Authorities charged a 34-year-old Makaha woman who allegedly cashed a stolen check belonging to a 70-year-old man and used her own identification when presenting the check to a bank teller in Waianae.

Anita Jane Agor, 34, was charged yesterday with second-degree forgery, second-degree theft, second-degree identity theft and unauthorized possession of confidential information.

Bail was set at $15,000.

Police said the check was one of several taken in a July 19 robbery carried out by a man, but it is unclear how the robbery suspect and Agor might be connected.

Hilo school bus crashes with children aboard

A small school bus carrying nine students, an aide and a driver flipped over yesterday morning in Hilo after a crash, but no one was injured, Big Island police said.

The accident happened at 7:16 a.m. at Kilauea Avenue and Palai Street.

Police said a green Ford sedan driven by a 57-year-old Hilo woman was traveling east on Palai Street and collided with the school bus traveling north on Kilauea Avenue.

The crash sent the bus off the roadway, where it overturned and came to rest in the yard of a home at the intersection.

The 58-year-old driver of the bus, nine students 3 to 8 years old and a female aide were not injured, police said. However, the children were taken to Hilo Medical Center as a precaution.
