QUESTION: I've noticed some feral cats have a notched ear. What does that mean?
ANSWER: The Hawaiian Humane Society offers free feral cat spay and neuter services, which enables humane reduction of feral cat overpopulation. The service has prevented thousands upon thousands of unwanted litters and is paid for entirely by donations. The ear-notching is performed while the cat is under anesthetic and helps colony caregivers identify whether the animal has been sterilized. Males are notched on the left; females, on the right.
