Short snaps: UH vs. Boise State

Moore the last QB standing
Boise State coach Chris Petersen had no choice but to leave starting quarterback Kellen Moore in the game until the final whistle.
Backup Michael Coughlin took a blow to the head on his first play of the game and didn't return, although Petersen said he doesn't expect him to miss any games.
“;We only have two quarterbacks and (Coughlin) got dinged on his one carry,”; Petersen said. “;(The doctors) wouldn't let him go back into the game.”;
Moore handed the ball off on all 11 plays of BSU's final drive, ending in a Matt Kaiserman 1-yard run.
Medeiros makes good
Senior slotback Jon Medeiros has something to build on.
In his first career start, Medeiros made his second touchdown grab of the season with 9:50 to play on a 10-yard strike from Shane Austin. It was UH's only offensive score.
“;I just wanted to execute well,”; he said. “;We came out with the mentality that we're going to put up points tonight. It didn't happen. Offensively, we made a lot of mistakes, but that's things that can be fixed.”;
New defensive scheme
The Warriors unleashed a new defensive look early in the second quarter with Boise State threatening to crack the red zone.
UH tried to catch Boise off guard with seven defensive backs. It paid dividends as corner Lewis Walker tripped up the Broncos' Jeremy Avery for no gain on third down, and BSU's Kyle Brotzman missed the ensuing field-goal try.
It was one of the few times Boise failed to make good on a jaunt into UH territory.
Boise State effective on fourth down
Improving on third-down conversion rate was a point of emphasis for the Hawaii defense this week. The Warriors held the Broncos to a 3-for-13 showing, only to be victimized twice on fourth down.
Boise State converted a fourth and 2 into a 35-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Tyler Shoemaker. They stunned the Warriors again late in the quarter when Brotzman completed a 28-yard pass on fourth and 4. UH held on that drive when Brotzman missed a field goal.
Alexander in the house
Hawaii's quarterback issues began when Greg Alexander suffered a season-ending knee injury against Louisiana Tech. After two surgeries, the second to treat an infection that formed in the knee, the senior attended his first football-related function last night. Alexander said he'll start rehabbing his knee tomorrow.
“;It's not too painful now, more annoying,”; Alexander said. “;There's peaks and valleys, but I'll be all right.”;
