If voters who hold Boise State's BCS future in their hands wanted a statement, the Broncos sure gave them one.

Whether they were awake to see it is another matter.

The sixth-ranked Broncos made Hawaii fans wish they were the ones tucked comfortably in their beds, as far away from the latest Warriors beatdown as possible.

Kellen Moore threw five touchdown passes and the Broncos lived up to their No. 4 ranking in the BCS standings with a 54-9 win over Hawaii that was over within minutes of the opening kickoff.

Titus Young had eight catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns and the Broncos (7-0, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) set a season high in points while handing UH its worst loss of the season.

“;Six turnovers is the reason we were able to get such a commanding lead,”; Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. “;We play defense like that and we'll be hard to stop.”;

Petersen has made it clear the team's focus is on one opponent at a time, but in the real world of college football, appearance is everything.

The Broncos appeared to be a top-five team against Hawaii, although most of the East Coast voters who will have a say in the Broncos' BCS hopes likely had only a box score to go by when they woke up this morning.

But even that is impressive.

Whether it was Moore's precision (18-for-29, no interceptions), Jeremy Avery's efficiency (6.5 yards per carry), or a ball-hawking defense (three fumble recoveries and three interceptions), the Broncos dominated every statistical category that matters.

“;We got things rolling, which was nice, and we got in a rhythm and the defense played well,”; Moore said. “;That's two games in a row this defense has played well (against Hawaii).”;

Safety Jeron Johnson frustrated Hawaii's quarterback tandem of Bryant Moniz and Shane Austin with two interceptions. He dropped a third. Johnson also recovered a fumble to have his hand in three of the Broncos' six takeaways.

“;We just capitalized on our opportunities,”; Johnson said. “;The key was creating turnovers and not just having them handed to us.”;

Boise's day was made even better by No. 11 Oregon's 24-point victory on the road at Washington. The Ducks, who the Broncos beat in the opening game of the season, are the only undefeated team in the Pac-10 and a win over Southern California next weekend would make the Broncos' victory over them that much more impressive.

It might take that for Boise State to overcome a level of East Coast bias, but it's something the Broncos don't get caught up in.

“;We needed this win for ourselves,”; Moore said. “;We don't feel like we played that well the last two weeks.”;

Three of their final five games are at home, with road trips at Louisiana Tech and Utah State left.

More performances like the one last night and a little help from other teams losing and the Broncos might achieve another first for non-BCS schools.

A spot in the national title game.
