Tadd tied for sixth at Q-school

Tadd Fujikawa of Hawaii is tied for sixth place after two rounds of the First Stage of Q-school at St. Augustine, Fla.

The 18-year-old carded a 1-under-par 71 yesterday to go along with an opening round of 68.

The top 22 players after tomorow's final round advance to Second Stage on Nov. 18-21 in the quest for their PGA Tour cards.

 

'Bows assured of another TV game

The Hawaii men's basketball team will get a second game on national TV in the Diamond Head Classic holiday tournament because of a schedule shift announced yesterday.

Even if the Rainbow Warriors lose their ESPNU-televised opening-round game against College of Charleston on Dec. 22, the Rainbows would play SMU or UNLV on ESPNU at 9 the following night.

 

UH's Nafarrete wins 2 singles matches

Hawaii sophomore Alyssa Nafarrete went undefeated in singles action yesterday with two impressive victories at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego.

Nafarrete defeated Maria Raygada from host San Diego 6-4, 6-3 and San Diego State's Roxanne Ellison 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. She'll play top seed Kelcy McKenna from Arizona State today.

 

Enos still hospitalized

Kai Enos, the assistant athletic director at Radford and former Rams basketball coach, remains hospitalized and in critical condition following a surfing accident Sunday at Kewalo Basin.

Enos has regained consciousness and his condition has improved significantly, according to his son Rykin, a walk-on guard for the Hawaii basketball team.

HPU shuts out Dixie State

Max Anton scored in the 39th minute and Hawaii Pacific went on to a 3-0 victory over Dixie State in a PacWest men's soccer match at HPU's Atherton Field.

The Sea Warriors (9-2-1, 6-2-1 PWC) added second-half goals by Kimo Komomura and Alan Albertazzi to win their third straight. The Red Storm dropped to 5-7-1 and 3-6.

» Johnny Vieira scored late in the first half, then added an insurance goal off a pass from Juan Mendez in the 75th minute to lead Grand Canyon to a 2-0 win over host Chaminade.

The conference-leading Antelopes improved to 11-2-1, 8-0 PacWest, while the Silverswords dropped to 2-10 and 1-8.

» Cristobal Montes scored what proved to be the deciding goal off the halftime kickoff to lead Notre Dame de Namur over Hawaii-Hilo 2-1 at Amauuulu field.

The Vulcans (6-8, 5-3) avoided the shutout when Vincent Muscarella scored on a cross by Jeremy Adams in the 62nd minute. The Argonauts improved to 7-8-1 and 7-1-1.

» Chris McElwee and Collin Walch each scored in the opening 20 minutes and host Brigham Young-Hawaii held on for a 2-1 win over Dominican.

The Seasiders improved to 4-6-1 and 3-3-1, while the Penguins fell to 5-6-1 and 2-3-1.

In women's matches:

» Dixie State scored two second-half goals to turn back Hawaii Pacific 3-1 at Atherton Field.

Meghan Fuller's goal in the 27th minute tied it at 1-1, but the Sea Warriors (7-6-1, 5-4) were shut out the rest of the way. The Red Storm remained atop the conference at 9-0, 10-3 overall.

» Hawaii-Hilo and Notre Dame de Namur played to a 0-0 tie, with neither team able to score in either of the two overtime periods at Amauulu Field.

The Vulcans move to 3-7-4, 2-3-3 PacWest, while the Argonauts are 5-8-1 and 3-5-1.

» Viviana Zumpano and Aislinn Finfrock each scored two goals to lead Grand Canyon over host Chaminade 4-1.

Marissa Faye scored in the 86th minute for the Silverswords (0-12, 0-9). The Antelopes improved to 6-6-2 and 3-3-2.

» Natasha Aiono scored twice in the second half to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 3-0 victory over Dominican at the BYUH campus.

Natalie Cude scored in the 32nd minute for the Seasiders (10-3, 7-2). The Penguins fell to 5-8-3 and 3-5-2.
