A new way of looking at gun control

Finding inner peace at the gun range? It's true. As in any sport, your best performance comes when you are totally focused yet relaxed.

In the case of the gun range, Moanalua High School's Chelsie Hata repeated as the OIA girls champion in air riflery this month, shooting 534 out of a possible 600.

“;A good shooter needs to be able to achieve what I call 'inner peace,'”; said Hata's coach, Francis Achiu. “;It's almost a Zen kind of quiet state.”;

Hata herself says she shoots best when she puts her problems and worries aside and concentrates only on the “;process and execution of shooting.”;

So congratulations to Hata, as she heads into next week's Hawaii High School Athletic Association/Civilan Marksmanship Program Air Riflery Championships at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall, in which she placed third last year.

We sure do miss those tradewinds

Hot enough for you?

Unless you've been living under a cool rock or encamped in an air-conditioned space, the last few days have been downright H-U-M-I-D (even the word is slogging through the day). And though temperatures have been recording in the mid-80s, the lack of tradewinds and other climate factors take things to sticky heights. To wit: Yesterday's high hovered at 87 degrees, but the “;RealFeel”; (it's a trademark) was put at 100 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com, which can be accessed via the weather icon atop http://www.starbulletin.com. Today's expected high of 87 degrees, in “;RealFeel”; temperatures, was put at 96 degrees. At least it's trending a tad cooler.
