ILH teams go pink

The ILH's best volleyball teams are getting a taste of competition during a 12-day break between matches.

The inaugural Bump, Set and Spike for the Cure exhibition tournament at La Pietra's gym on Saturday is a fundraiser for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

Punahou, Kamehameha, Hawaii Baptist and Word of Life have committed to play in the tournament, which begins at noon.

Punahou and Kamehameha last played on Saturday. As the ILH champion, Punahou has a first-round bye and won't play in the state tourney until next Thursday.

Aiea gets DT back

Aiea defensive tackle Lawrence Lagafuaina was missed against Moanalua's relentless ground attack in last week's loss. Lagafuaina is expected back this week when Na Alii host Radford in an OIA White playoff matchup. The winner secures a state-tournament berth.

Lee looking better

Castle quarterback Jaymason Lee, who hurt his hip in a loss to Kahuku two weeks ago, has healed well enough for this week's showdown at Waianae, coach Nelson Maeda said.

Tall task for Kapolei

A lengthy period of rest has helped Kapolei, which had two bye weekends in a row. The Hurricanes will need all their weapons for a battle against Farrington on Saturday at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.

That game will kick off at 5 p.m.
