Police identify man shot dead on Maui
Maui police have identified a 45-year-old man who was fatally shot Sunday in Kaupo as Alan Vegas of Kaupo.
Vegas died from a single gunshot wound, which caused internal bleeding, police said.
Maui police have opened a murder investigation. Vegas was taken by helicopter from Kaupo to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died at 11:33 a.m. Further information was not available.
Waipahu standoff ends peacefully after 8 hours
A 53-year-old man who barricaded himself within a towing company in Waipahu on Sunday surrendered peacefully.
Police responded to reports of shots fired on Awanei Street at 7 p.m. Sunday.
By 3 a.m. yesterday the Honolulu Police Department's SWAT team had made contact with the man, who was believed to be armed with a rifle. He exited the property and was taken into custody, said Capt. Letha DeCaires.
Police did not recover a weapon. Residents who were evacuated were allowed to return to their homes after 3 a.m.
Fall from tree sends Kauai man to hospital
A 22-year-old Kilauea, Kauai, man was taken in critical condition to Wilcox Hospital after falling 40 feet from a tree in Princeville, according to police.
The victim was trimming a eucalyptus tree at a Princeville residence at about 11:43 a.m. when he fell, police said. His name was not released.
