Texas-based instructor to teach salsa bootcamp

Salsa No Ka Oi is presenting a Bachata Bootcamp, with special guest instructor, Texas-based Jorge Elizondo.

The sessions in learning the sexy Latin dance will take place at 3 and 5 p.m. Oct. 31 and 2 and 4 p.m. Nov. 1.

The classes will take place at the Dream to Dance Studio at 661 Auahi St. The cost is $35 per class, with discounts available for multiple class purchases.

Salsa No Ka Oi is a nonprofit dance school dedicated to spreading the joy of Latin dancing in Hawaii.

Bill Cosby performing 2 shows at Blaisdell

Bill Cosby will perform two shows at the Blaisdell Concert Hall, at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Jan. 15, 2010. Tickets, $35 to $65, go on sale Saturday at Ticketmaster.com, the Blaisdell box office, Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 800-745-3000.

Solar power car helps 'green up' isle events

Sunetric has retrofitted a bright green Honda Element with three 230W Sunpower modules to create a mobile solar power station christened “;Watt Wheels.”; The vehicle can now be spotted around town, providing free solar power at various community, charitable and educational events, making it easy for groups to “;green up”; their events. Providing free solar power at events is one way for Sunetric to give back to the community it serves.

Those who haven't seen the vehicle and what the mobile power station can do are welcome to check it out at the Green Market on Fort Street Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.

“;We want people to embrace renewable energy and to be cognizant of living a green lifestyle,”; said Sunetric President Sean Mullen.

Other events that have been powered by Sunetric have been the All Watercraft Cleanup at Sand Island, the Haleiwa Farmers Market and Nature Play Day at YMCA Camp Erdman, where Watt Wheels powered the sound system and shave ice vendor.

Finding ways to talk 'birds and bees' to kids

Planned Parenthood, Hawaii Youth Services Network and the state Department of Education are teaming up to host a workshop on how to talk to your kids about sex. The “;I'm Askable”; workshop will be held at the Kaimuki High School Library next Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Complimentary child care, pizza and drinks will be provided.

Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns and practice listening skills that will help them teach their children about practicing safe sex. Puberty and teen pregnancy are among the topics that will be discussed.
