Hawaii's Vandals relish win

The Hawaii contingent on the Idaho roster savored their first win over the Warriors.

Linebacker JoJo Dickson, a Baldwin graduate, finished with six tackles, including a sack, and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter to effectively snuff UH's comeback hopes.

“;Coming from Hawaii, playing these guys who outscored us 167-47 or whatever, in the past three meetings, it means a lot,”; Dickson said. “;It means a lot to me and the rest of the team.”;

Linebacker Robert Siavii, a teammate of UH quarterback Bryant Moniz's at Leilehua, had three tackles, including one for loss.

Damien graduate Kama Bailey didn't get a chance to return a kickoff and had one reception for 6 yards.

No timeout called, McMackin says

UH head coach Greg McMackin adamantly denied calling a timeout after a first down on UH's final drive of the first half.

With less than a minute left, Bryant Moniz completed a pass to Greg Salas for 17 yards on third and 2. Although the clock stopped for the first down, UH was charged with a timeout. McMackin said he didn't call for the timeout, but the official said he did.

“;I didn't call a timeout, absolutely not,”; McMackin said. “;That's why I was out talking to the official.”;

The drive stalled and UH was forced to punt with 10 seconds left in the half.

Another big day for Salas

UH receiver Greg Salas, the nation's leader entering the game, caught a career-high 10 passes yesterday and eclipsed the century mark for the fifth time in six games.

His 111 yards raised his season total to 791. Salas tied Rodney Bradley for the team lead in touchdowns with five, snagging a 21-yard scoring pass with 41 seconds left in the game.

Jovonte Taylor also had the most productive game of his UH career with six catches for 80 yards.

Idaho breaks through against UH

Yesterday's win was Idaho's second in the series with UH and the first since 1960. The Vandals' 35 points were the most they've scored in the 10 meetings between the schools. UH had outscored Idaho 189-47 since the Vandals joined the Western Athletic Conference in 2005.
