Rainbow Wahine remain in 15th

Hawaii stayed in 15th place after the second day of the Stanford Intercollegiate women's golf tournament yesterday.

Corie Hou had a second-round 74 for a 156 total for the Rainbow Wahine. She moved up nine places into a tie for 68th.

Marina Alex (137) of Vanderbilt is the individual leader. Arizona State leads the team competition at 13-under 273.

Lajola wins at ITA tourney

Hawaii's Dennis Lajola defeated Daniel Gliner of USC, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regional Tennis Championships at Malibu, Calif.

Lajola went on to lose to Alex Llompart of Pepperdine, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Two other Warriors played and lost yesterday. Andreas Weber lost to Pepperdine's Sebastien Fanselow, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1, while Philipp Eberhard dropped a 6-2, 6-3 match to Jaak Poldma of USC.

McMackin at Na Koa meeting

Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin is the guest speaker for tomorrow's Na Koa Football Club luncheon meeting at The Willows restaurant.

The meeting runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited and the cost of the luncheon is $15.

Hawaii-Hilo spikes Dominican

Kawena Cubi-Otineru put down 11 kills and Josimara Pinheiro and Morgan Bonney had 10 each to lead host Hawaii-Hilo to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-11 women's volleyball victory over Dominican (Calif.) yesterday.

The Vulcans improved 20-1 overall and 10-1 in the Pacific West Conference.

Gabby Pecora led the way for the Penguins (4-19, 0-10) with nine kills.

Hawaii Pacific edged in soccer

Alicia Plotky scored in the 89th minute to give Birmingham Southern a 2-1 women's soccer victory over Hawaii Pacific yesterday at Kaneohe.

Devon Weldon also scored for the Panthers (7-7).

Dyanne Anderson had the lone goal for the Sea Warriors (6-4-1).

Jia runner-up at ITA tennis

Armstrong Atlantic's Sona Novakova defeated Brigham Young-Hawaii's Yuan Jia 6-1, 6-4 in the ITA Small College Championships Division II tennis final yesterday at Mobile, Ala.

Deavila wins another race

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Spencer Deavila won his third race in a row yesterday in the BYU-Hawaii Invitational.

DeAvila covered the 8-kilometer men's course in 25 minutes, 7 seconds to lead the Seasiders to the cross country team victory.

BYUH scored 24 points to beat second-place Hawaii-Hilo by 23.

Hawaii Pacific placed third, followed by Chaminade in the four-team field.

» In the women's race, BYUH took four of the top five spots to win.

Lacey Krout ran the 5K course in 19:12 to finish first. Teammates Katie Buxton, Danielle Anderson and Lacee Kurtz finished second, third and fifth.

The Seasiders won with 19 points, followed by Hawaii Pacific in second and Chaminade in third.

Hawaii-Hilo runners participated, but the Vulcans did not have the required five runners for the team competition.

HPU wins golf tri-match

Charlie Renfro shot a 1-under 70 to lead Hawaii Pacific to a golf tri-match victory yesterday at the Makaha West Golf Course.

The Sea Warriors shot a 287 overall, 12 strokes better than second-place Brigham Young-Hawaii. Chaminade was third.

BYUH's Inoka Kahawaii shot a 3-under 68 for medalist honors.
