Waimanalo throws a party in the country

Gather up the family for a trip to “;God's Country,”; as the residents of Waimanalo like to call their part of Oahu, and check out the annual Waimanalo Country Fair.

From 6 p.m. to midnight today, noon to midnight tomorrow and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, Waimanalo Beach Park will be transformed into a midway of EK Fernandez rides and games, along with local craft and food vendors and a dunking booth manned by members of the Honolulu Police Department.

Live entertainment is also planned, with scheduled appearances by Nesian N.I.N.E., A Touch of Gold, B.E.T. and Ilona Irvine.

Dervish whirls on to LCC stage

The traditional music of Ireland takes center stage tomorrow at Leeward Community College Theatre.

Led by Cathy Jordan's irresistible stage presence, the group Dervish includes some of the most accomplished musicians in Ireland, including fiddler Tom Morrow and mandola player Brian McDonagh.

Chosen as Ireland's entry in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, Dervish's 18-year history has seen the group as ambassadors of traditional Irish music to every corner of the world—literally, in some instances, as they've accompanied Ireland's Prime Minister and President on trade missions and state visits.
