Dinner features Grand Crew wines
Beachhouse at the Moana will present a special five-course dinner Tuesday featuring the boutique wines of Grand Crew Wine Merchants.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a sparkling-wine reception, followed at 6:30 with dinner prepared by chef de cuisine Rodney Uyehara.
Wine pairings start with a Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs with canapes of salmon tartare on sweet bread toast, escargot stuffed baby bellas and blackened ahi on fried lotus chips. Progress from there to the first course of Kona Abalone Rockefeller (Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, Napa), second course of Pan-Seared Onaga (Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir), third of Pancetta Wrapped New Zealand Venison (Pride Merlot and Girard Petit Syrah, Napa), fourth of Australian Wagyu New York Strip Loin and Sonoma Foie Gras (Lokoya “;Diamond Mountain”; Cabernet Sauvignon and Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa) and a final course of Dark Rum Creme Brulee (Royal Tokaji, Hungary).

Brook and Home Le'amohala, vegans and co-founders of the Optimum Living Alliance, will be holding a free cooking demonstration on how to prepare such fare as Divine Cashew Mushroom Gravy, fresh vegan milks and hot chocolate, Chocolate Cream Pie and Fresh Living Apple Pie.
They'll also teach a few tricks for getting those important greens into your family's diet.

New farmers' market to start at Ward
Farmers' market fans have yet one more place to peruse: Ward Centers will host a market weekly starting Tuesday in its Ward Warehouse parking lot.
The market, organized by Mahiku Farms, will offer veggies and fruits, flowers, plants, homemade food and baked goods. It runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 591-8411.
Buy ice cream and help food bank
Tropilicious Ice Cream & Sorbet is doing its part to help feed Hawaii's hungry with a months-long campaign to raise funds for Hawaii Foodbank.
From now through Jan. 15, the local business will donate 10 cents from every pint sold in Foodland markets to the food bank.
