Pac-Five receiver OK

Everett Kim was having the game of his life on Friday against Kamehameha when a big hit downfield knocked him out.

Kim, a Pac-Five wide receiver, lay motionless as trainers tended to him. After nearly 20 minutes, he was transported to a hospital and diagnosed with a grade-three concussion and fractured jaw.

“;He's walking around. He watched practice (Monday),”; Wolfpack coach Kip Botelho said yesterday. “;It was more like a boxer's knockout punch. He got his memory back after.”;

Kim, who had seven catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, will be out at least three weeks.

“;We're not counting on him to be back,”; Botelho said. “;That's a big loss for us. He's coming into his own, but the main thing is his health is good. It could've been a lot worse.”;

Major laundry

Friday's Kahuku-Castle game, played at Castle, left the visiting team with a major laundry issue.

“;I couldn't even see (linebacker) Ben Mamea's number,”; coach Reggie Torres said of his team's formerly white jerseys.

“;It took two days of soaking and washing. I owe my wife (Lita) big time,”; he said.

SOS milestone

The Hawaii High School Athletic Association's SOS campaign has passed the $1 million mark.

“;We continue to be very appreciative and humbled by the public's support,”; HHSAA executive director Keith Amemiya said of the effort to offset athletic budget cuts.
