Motorcycle crash victim was a Navy corpsman
The Navy identified yesterday a 29-year-old man killed Sunday in a head-on motorcycle collision outside Wahiawa as Petty Officer 3rd Class Nigel C. Kennedy, a hospital corpsman.
Kennedy, a New York City native, was attached to Naval Health Clinic Hawaii since July.
Police said Kennedy was Haleiwa-bound at 1:13 p.m. when he failed to make it through a bend in Kaukonahua Road and smashed into an oncoming car about a mile past Wilikina Drive.
Kennedy, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene. He served with the Marines and had been deployed to the Middle East.
Kennedy had received, among others, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Service Defense Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with one star, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
