UH takes 2 aquatic awards

Emma Berry and Hanna Bocksnick of Hawaii took the Western Athletic Conference swimmer and diver of the week awards yesterday.

Berry won three individual events and was on a victorious relay team as UH went 5-0 in dual meets at last week's WAC Shootout.

Bosnick took three diving wins at the WAC Shootout.

Warriors 13th in golf

The Hawaii men's golf team placed 13th at the Prestige at PGA West yesterday, with Jared Saward and Alex Chu tying for 66th place individually. Both shot 232 in the 54-hole event at the TPC Stadium Course in La Quinta, Calif.

TCU successfully defended its team title.

Patacchia makes quarterfinals in Spain

Pro surfer Fred Pattachia of Haleiwa made it to the quarterfinals of the Billabong Pro Mundaka in Spain yesterday.

Patacchia fell to eventual winner Adriano de Souza in the round of eight. De Souza outsurfed Chris Davidson in the final.

Kekoa Bacalso of Mililani made it to the round of 16, where C.J. Hobgood beat him.

Hawaii-Hilo wins in home sweep

Kawena Cubi-Otineru placed eight kills to lead 19th-ranked Hawaii-Hilo past visiting Notre Dame de Namur last night, 25-17, 25-22, 25-12.

The Vulcans improved to 18-1 and 8-1 in the Pacific West Conference. Notre Dame de Namur fell to 8-14 and 5-3, and was led by Christin Villamayor's nine kills.

» Losaline Faka'osi planted 12 kills, leading host Brigham Young-Hawaii past Dominican 25-18, 25-14, 25-17. BYUH climbed to 9-10 and 5-4 in conference. Dominican fell to 4-16 and 0-7.

» Whitney Estes put down 11 kills to lead Grand Canyon past host Chaminade 25-19, 20-25, 29-27, 26-24. Grand Canyon is now 12-7 and 2-5 and Chaminade is 3-16 and 1-8.

HPU's Fossati takes golf tourney

Hawaii Pacific freshman Alessandro Fossati fired a 2-under par 70 to win his first college golf meet, a tri-match at Turtle Bay.

The Sea Warriors won with 294 overall, as Connor Rumpf shot 71 and Charlie Renfro 74 for second and third individually.

BYUH was second with 312 and Chaminade was third at 365.

» Randi Ono of Hawaii-Hilo shot 9-over 155 in the 36-hole Western Washington Invitational to finish tied for fifth and lead the Vulcans to ninth place in the team standings.
