Suspect sought for theft using stolen debit card

Big Island police are looking for a man suspected of stealing money by using another person's debit card.

South Hilo officers said the suspect stole the newly issued card and used it at an automated teller machine, a gas station and a retail store.

Surveillance cameras recorded images of the man. Police described him as in his mid-20s to early 30s, about 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and tan complexion.

Man arrested in assault of his former girlfriend

Police arrested a 35-year-old Waialua man Sunday who allegedly punched his ex-girlfriend and pointed a gun in her face.

Police said that at about 9 a.m. the man hit the 31-year-old woman in the face through the open window of her vehicle, then broke the windows of the vehicle with a baseball bat.

As the woman sat in the vehicle, the man put a gun against her face and threatened to kill her, police said.

He fled in a vehicle. Officers found him nearby and recovered a gun and baseball bat in his vehicle, police said. He was booked on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree criminal property damage, unauthorized entry of a vehicle and gun violations.

The woman refused medical treatment for minor injuries.

Fire at Kalihi business was set on purpose

A fire inside and outside a Kalihi warehouse last week was intentionally set, the Honolulu Fire Department said yesterday.

Fire investigators have referred the case to the Honolulu Police Department after completing their probe of the fire at Ace Auto Glass at 2250 Kamehameha Highway last Tuesday night, officials said.

The fire began outside the warehouse in or near a trash container and extended into the building, officials said. Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the building and $75,000 to the contents.

3 males are wanted in Waipio burglaries

Police are looking for three males who allegedly burglarized three Waipio businesses Sunday and got away with cash and a safe.

A security officer found a door open to one business on Ka Uka Boulevard at about 11:30 p.m. and called police.

Officers found that the suspects had pried open the rear door of one of three businesses.

The suspects took money from a cash register and stole a safe from under a counter from one of the establishments, police said.

The affected businesses were Fantastic Sam's, Ninja Sushi and the UPS Store, police said.

A surveillance camera recorded images of the suspects removing the items, police said.
