Hawaii is vulnerable to tsunamis, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a message for islanders: “;Know nature's warning signs.”;
This is critically important in saving lives, particularly during local events where there is virtually no time for an official warning, the agency says.
“;If you are near the shoreline, go inland to higher ground or upstairs in a high building if the ground shakes so hard it's difficult to stand, if the water recedes from the shoreline exposing the ocean floor or if a loud noise like a roar is heard coming from the ocean,”; the agency says.
