The Atherton Family Foundation has awarded $50,000 to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii, a subsidiary of St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii. The two-year grant will support a major modernization of St. Francis Hospice's two in-patient facilities, the Sister Maureen Keleher Center in Nuuanu, and the Maurice J. Sullivan Family Hospice Center in Ewa Beach.



Chloe Honbo, a senior at La Pietra, won for the second year in a row the state TrigStar award, an annual high school mathematics competition based on the practical application of trigonometry. Honbo was awarded $500 cash and a $500 college scholarship.



Imua Family Services received $2,000 from the Alexander & Baldwin Foundation to support its week-long Camp Imua for 50 Maui children with special needs.



California businessman Jay Longley, Jr., founder of Rainbow Sandals out of San Clemente, Calif., donated $5,000 to the Molokai Community Service Council, and $1,000 to Na Kama Kai. Both nonprofits also received boxes of Rainbow Sandals.
