Koa gallery showcases Kauai artists
Catch up with Kauai's art scene at Kapiolani Community College, where Koa Gallery is showing “;Kauai 5”; for a final week. Carol Bennett, Doug Britt, Sharon Britt, Karen Gally and Wayne Zebzda share their work in the exhibit, which runs through Friday.
Koa Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Call 734-9374.
Photo exhibit honors Filipino vets
October is Filipino-American History Month, and as part of its celebration, the Filipino-American Historical Society is presenting a photo exhibit, “;A Legacy of Valor and Loyalty,”; at Honolulu Hale through Oct. 23.
The show pays tribute to the contributions of Hawaii's Filipino and Filipino-American war vets, who were vital to furthering U.S. political goals in the Pacific in the 20th century.

Art on Furlough Fridays
» The Academy Art Center is offering three-session art classes for students in grades 1 to 6 during the 17 furlough days instituted in public schools. Themed classes, which run 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., include art-making and museum visits. Classes are $150; find registration forms at http://www.honoluluacademy.org. Call 532-8741.
Also, the Honolulu Academy of Arts will offer free admission to students with ID on furlough days. Groups are limited to five children per adult.
