No propane released after crash

Four Campbell Industrial Park businesses were evacuated yesterday after a propane truck collided with a dump truck and overturned.

The Gas Co. vehicle collided with a dump truck that exited an asphalt company on Malakole Street near Hanua Street at about 1:15 p.m., said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

Firefighters isolated the area and confirmed no propane was released.

Seelig said the propane truck driver was treated for injuries that were not critical. He added that a wrecker company righted the propane truck, and the road was reopened at about 4 p.m.

Man faces charges in girl's beating

A 21-year-old Mililani man has been charged with breaking into the home of his estranged 17-year-old girlfriend and beating her.

Wes Herman Silva Jr. was charged yesterday with abuse, first-degree burglary and kidnapping. His bail was set at $75,000. Originally, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said that at about 7:30 a.m. yesterday Silva climbed through the window of the girl's home, woke her up and forced her to write a suicide note. Then he choked her with both hands until she collapsed, and punched her repeatedly in the face, head and upper torso, police said.

Police said the girl was taken in unknown condition to a hospital.
