Waikiki Shell featuring hula

A free hula and Tahitian dance concert featuring more than 100 dancers will be held tomorrow at the Waikiki Shell.

“;Pi'o Anuenue—The Rainbow Connection”; will celebrate the special bond Hawaii shares with Japan for perpetuating hula as an international attraction.

Participants will be Halau Na Puakea o Ko'olaupoko, under the direction of kumu hula Pattye Kealohalani Wright of Kailua, and Halau Halihali Ke Ao, under the direction of kumu hula Sandii Manumele of Tokyo.

Gates will open at 3 p.m., and the concert will run from 4 to 7 p.m.

Food and drink concessions will be available. Packages, bags and knapsacks will be limited to one per person, and must not exceed 12 by 12 inches in size. No open or glass containers will be allowed inside. No chairs are allowed, only backrests.

No alcohol for anyone under the age of 21, and any outside alcoholic beverages will be confiscated at the gate.

Kapena holding free concerts

Outrigger Enterprises Groups presents Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Kapena at the Na Mele No Nu Pua free concert series form 4 to 5 p.m. Oct. 25 at Embassy Suites.

The band has performed in Hawaii, on the mainland from Texas to Alaska and in the South Pacific and Asia including Tahiti, Tonga, Japan and China. Hit songs include “;Masese,”; “;Red Red Wine”; and “;Sea of Heartbreak.”; Band members include Kelly Boy De Lima on ukulele and vocals, Kalena De Lima on keyboards and vocals, Lilo De Lima on bass and vocals, and Kapena De Lima on drums.

The concerts are free and open to the public. Elevator access to the Grand Lanai is located on Lewers Street. Valet parking is $6 for up to four hours at the Embassy Suites, 201 Beachwalk St. Call 921-2343.
