GO GOLF!
Wie to make case for golf in Olympics
Michelle Wie is among the foursome chosen to ask the International Olympic Committee tomorrow in Copenhagen, Denmark, that golf be returned as an event in the 2016 Games. Wie will join two-time British Open champion Padraig Harrington of Ireland, Suzann Pettersen of Norway and 16-year-old British amateur champ Matteo Manassero of Italy. The four were asked by the International Golf Federation to appear before the Olympic Committee. Golf was last included in the 1904 Games.
THE CASE FOR FAT
Moderation still probably key
The problem with dieting based on the latest scientific evidence is that such evidence is always being updated — and much of it is conflicting as well. For example, military-funded researchers recently found that foods high in saturated fats, discouraged by some nutritionists, improve the performance of fighter pilots — which could help reduce human error in both military and civilian aviation. However, the study was concerned with only pilot performance, and might not be something you want to rush out and adopt.
NFL INCUBATOR
Hawaii fertile ground for the NFL
Hawaii has jumped into the top 10 states as breeding grounds for the National Football League.
Its 13 NFL players from a state of 1.2 million residents make Hawaii No. 6 in players per capita, finishing ahead of such football factories as Ohio and Pennsylvania.
One player out of every 93,000 island residents is in the league, compared with the national rate of one per every 166,000 Americans.
