Zombie short film contest: Submission deadline is 3 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Kumu Kahua Box Office, 536-4441, 536-4222, http://www.KumuKahua.org. Must have a zombie theme; have rights to the music used or created own music; about five minutes in length; DVD format; $10 entry fee; prizes awarded. Showing is on Halloween night during the “;Art of the Living Dead”; event beginning 8 p.m.
Honolulu ghost tours: Listen to ghost stories while visiting haunted sites on a three-hour, 2-mile stroll through downtown Honolulu. Tours available nightly through October; meet 6:30 p.m. at the Capitol District. Reservations required 48 hours in advance, for adults only, $25. ”;Howl-o-Ween”; canine costume contest: noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 24, Ward Warehouse Amphitheater. Register now at Ward Pet Spot or call 591-1990. Categories are Most Original, Look-Alike and Funniest. Owners are encouraged to dress up. Winners judged by audience applause. Also, Friends for Life (no-kill animal shelter) will have dogs available for adoption.
