Diver in his teens dies after struck by boat

A 17-year-old diver died yesterday after he was hit by a boat in Maunalua Bay, authorities said.

The boat struck two teenage male divers shortly before 1 p.m., and the driver, realizing the accident, turned around and picked them up, said Fire Capt. Robert Main.

Both teens were taken to the Maunalua Bay boat ramp in Hawaii Kai, where firefighters transferred them to paramedics, Main said.

Police said one teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

Police arrest 3 adults and a teen after fight

Three adults and one teen were arrested Saturday night during a brawl in Waianae where a police officer was allegedly assaulted.

At about 10:20 p.m. police responded to an affray on Piliuka Place where a 17-year-old boy hit two men with a baseball bat and punched a teenage girl, police said. The boy was booked on suspicion of third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.

A 23-year-old Waianae woman punched a police officer several times and was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault on a police officer. Iosua Samoa, 43, was also charged with harassment and posted $2,000 bail. Veronica Samoa, 39, was charged with third-degree assault and posted $1,000 bail.

2 kids accuse man of sexual assault

A 31-year-old contract worker was arrested yesterday on suspicion of sexually assaulting two children at a Pearl City school.

Police said a boy and a girl, both 10, reported the Salt Lake man subjected them to sexual contact while at school at about 10:45 a.m. Sept. 22.

The man turned himself in at the main police station yesterday and was booked on suspicion of two counts of third-degree sexual assault. Police did not disclose the school.

All 3 victims of crash on Maui now dead

A 17-year-old boy became the third victim yesterday of a deadly single-car crash on Maui.

Jared Kalamaku Kana of Waihee died at the Maui Memorial Medical Center yesterday at 12:35 p.m., said police Lt. Barry Aoki. Kana was the brother of the driver Nailima Kana, 20, who died in the crash.

At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, front seat passenger Tyson Latham, 20, of Waihee, died at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. None of the three occupants was wearing a seat belt, police said.

The crash occurred at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Kahekili Highway in Waihee.

Police said a Mazda sedan crossed the center line and swerved back into a right embankment, then overturned.

This was the 17th traffic fatality for Maui County in 2009, compared with 14 at the same time last year.
