Wie falls off pace at Navistar LPGA

Honolulu's Michelle Wie didn't do enough on moving day thanks to a pedestrian 72—208 in yesterday's third round of the Navistar LPGA Classic played in Prattville, Ala.

Wie ended her second round on Friday two shots behind several talented golfers, including Ochoa. But while the world's best took moving day to heart, Wie did not. The Punahou School graduate dropped into a tie for 13th, eight shots behind Ochoa (66), who has a three-shot advantage at 16-under 200. Wie opened with a sizzling 6-under 66 on Thursday, but is only 2 under par over her last 36 holes.

McMackin speaks at QB Club lunch

Hawaii football coach Greg McMackin and former UH broadcaster Jeff Ruffolo headline tomorrow's speakers program at the joint Na Koa Football Club/Honolulu Quarterback Club lunch at The Willows restaurant.

Ruffolo is the chief communications officer for the Asian Games and upcoming Para Games of Asia.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the noon program.

Golfers way back at Mid-Amateur

Hilo's Chris Igawa and Desiree Ting of Wailuku were well behind the leaders after the first round of their respective U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships.

Igawa shot a 5-over 77 at the men's event in Kiawah Island, S.C., nine shots behind the group of four co-leaders.

Ting was in a large group at 7-over 79 in the women's event in Ocala, Fla. Wendi Golden of Sarasota, Fla., was the leader at 71.

Dixie upsets Hawaii-Hilo

Morgan Hill was in on 10 blocks and Madisyn Fitzgerald had 10 kills as Dixie State avenged Friday night's loss to No. 18 Hawaii-Hilo with a 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 win in the PacWest volleyball rematch in Saint George, Utah.

Fabiene Saben and Morgan Bonney each had 11 kills for the Vulcans (16-1, 6-1 PWC) against the Red Storm (11-4, 5-1).

» At San Rafael, Calif., Kelly Balanay and Mariana Souza each had 11 kills to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 win over Dominican.

Kyra Pelayo had 18 digs for the Sea Warriors (8-7, 5-1 PWC) against the Lady Penguins (3-14, 0-6).

» At Phoenix, Losaline Faka'osi put down a match-high 17 kills and had 15 digs, but it was not enough, as Brigham Young-Hawaii fell to Grand Canyon 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 15-25, 15-13.

The Seasiders (6-9, 3-3) also got 10 kills from Ane Vea against the Antelopes (10-7, 1-5).

» At San Francisco, Dan Yang had 19 kills and 14 digs for her 10th double-double to lead Academy of Art over Chaminade 25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 26-24.

Chauntelle Madull had 15 kills and 16 digs, and Whitney Viveiros 14 kills and 10 digs for the Silverswords (2-14, 1-6) against the Urban Knights (14-5, 3-3).

Seasiders women edge Antelopes

Breanna Rhoades scored in the 74th minute to lift the Brigham Young-Hawaii women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon yesterday in Phoenix.

Goalie Becky Ploeger had five saves for the Seasiders (5-1, 3-1 PWC) against the Antelopes (4-5-1, 1-3-1).

» Emily Lambert scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead Hawaii-Hilo over Chaminade 4-0 at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Nathalle Palacios had an unassisted goal for the Vulcans (3-5-1, 2-1) against the Silverswords (0-6, 0-3).

BYUH men fall to GCU in 2 OTs

Kyle Ciliento scored in the 103rd minute, giving Grand Canyon a 1-0 victory in double overtime against Brigham Young-Hawaii in men's soccer in Phoenix.

The Seasiders (2-5, 1-3 PWC) had just five shots in the contest, none in the two overtime periods, against the Antelopes (8-1-1, 5-0).

» Eduardo Gutierrez scored just before halftime and Logan Montenegro added a goal as time was expiring as Hawaii-Hilo (4-5, 3-0) shut out Chaminade (1-5, 0-3) 2-0 at Central Oahu Regional Park.
