UH adds Chaminade to basketball schedule
POSTED: Friday, October 02, 2009
The Hawaii men's basketball team will play Division II Chaminade in a regular-season matchup on Dec. 9 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The addition of the Silverswords raises UH's total of regular-season home games to 21, its most since the 1977-78 season. It falls between home contests against Lamar (Dec. 6) and Chicago State (Dec. 12).
Hawaii last played a Division II school in the regular season in 2003, when the Rainbow Warriors defeated Chaminade 68-54 in the semifinals of the Silverswords' Maui Invitational.
UH also plays Pacific West Conference schools Hawaii-Hilo (Oct. 30) and Brigham Young-Hawaii (Nov. 5) in two exhibition games leading up to its season opener against Southern Utah on Nov. 13.
For the second straight year, the Rainbows will eschew Twilight Ohana festivities under coach Bob Nash in favor of a formal practice on Oct. 16.
Satterwhite Jr. settles in with BYUH
Former Hawaii walk-on guard Gary Satterwhite Jr. is excited about his new role with the BYUH Seasiders after transferring over the summer.
The Radford graduate redshirted his first year at Manoa (2007-08) and missed all of last season with an injured shoulder, so he is eager to get out on the court for his first collegiate game in Laie. He was the fifth Rainbow Warrior to leave the team in the offseason.
“;I'm liking the situation right now, it's a good flow,”; Satterwhite said. “;I knew that (at UH), coming off the injury, my chances of playing were not that good.
“;I'm excited. Here, we have really talented guards who could play D-I, and we have an All-American big man, (Lucas Alves), too. We're athletic, we're quick, and we're looking forward to utilizing that.”;
