Man arrested in stabbing
Police arrested a homeless man in his late 30s yesterday after another homeless man in his 40s was stabbed at Kapiolani Park.
The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
The stabbing occurred at Monsarrat and Kalakaua avenues. Police said the victim was lying on a picnic table when the suspect approached him and allegedly stabbed him about 4:45 p.m. yesterday.
Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic said paramedics took the victim in critical condition to a trauma center, where he is expected to live.
Police said it is unknown whether the two men know each other.
No witnesses saw a weapon and none was recovered.
Item resembling grenade found
A man who regularly picks up cans in the area of Honokai Hale picked up what looked like a rocket-propelled grenade yesterday morning.
Maj. Michael Moses said the man brought the device to a police officer on special duty nearby, who reported it about 11 a.m.
The device was found on the roadside at Farrington Highway and Laaloa Street.
The Specialized Services Division bomb squad responded and found it was an inert device that appeared to be a dummy practice round, Moses said. Police did not know its origin.
Cabin pressure issue delays Hawaiian Air jet
Two passengers received medical treatment Sunday after a Hawaiian Airlines jet reported cabin pressure problems before it took off from Honolulu Airport.
A Hawaiian spokesman said the flight, which was supposed to leave for San Francisco just after 1 p.m., encountered pressurization problems after it left the gate.
The jet returned to the terminal where a valve was fixed.
Two passengers reported ear problems and were taken off the plane and treated.
The jet left for San Francisco after the problem was fixed.
