No. 9 Leilehua continued its trend of dominating second halves of games.

The difference Friday night against No. 7 Waianae is the Mules played the same way in the first half, too.

Leilehua remained in the thick of the chase for the top spot in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West division with a 47-28 victory over the Seariders at Raymond Torii Field.

Andrew Manley threw for 344 yards and three touchdowns and the Mules (4-2, 3-1) scored a season high in points after being shut out in the first half of their last two games.

“;Told our guys from the first quarter it's the fourth quarter already,”; Leilehua coach Nolan Tokuda said. “;I think that helps.”;

The Mules showed what their offense can do when it plays the full four quarters. Unlike the last two games—they trailed Campbell 20-0 and Kapolei 3-0 at halftime—Leilehua was clicking from its opening drive.

A pregame fireworks show celebrated Waianae's homecoming, and it continued after the opening whistle. Manley was picked on the Waianae 1-yard line on Leilehua's opening drive, but came back to lead the Mules to four touchdowns on their next five possessions.

“;When the fireworks started going off we wanted to come out with fire,”; Manley said after the game. “;That was our goal and that's what we wanted to do.”;

The Mules are known for their passing attack, but moved the ball on the ground as well. Tailback Carlos Marshall led the way with 87 yards on 13 carries and CJ Bailey, who caught an 89-yard touchdown pass, averaged more than 7 yards a carry.

When Leilehua was in need of a change of pace, fullback Austin Schmidt provided a more bruising attack, scoring on runs of 1 and 2 yards.

Had the Mules followed the same pattern of recent struggles in the first half, Waianae (3-3, 3-1) would have blown open the game. Seariders quarterback Puletua Wilson threw three touchdown passes in the first half, including two to Keoni Napierala-Rose.

But the Mules answered each time and took advantage of a key fumble late in the half to take a 28-21 halftime lead.

“;That's the thing,”; Manley said. “;We've been playing all second halves. Our first halves haven't been too good, so our goal this game was to come out the first half.”;

Once the Mules adjusted to the Seariders' passing attack, Waianae couldn't get going. A 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Guyson Amina accounted for their only points as the Mules dominated the fourth quarter 19-7.

The win moves the Seariders into a tie for second behind league-leading Mililani, which already owns a win over the Mules. Waianae closes the regular season with a game at Mililani in two weeks.
