Help test water at isle beaches

Hui o Ko'olaupoko, Voices of the Watershed, needs volunteers to help monitor the water quality at Waimanalo and Kailua beach parks next Saturday.

During the annual Hawaii Volunteer Snapshot Day, volunteers from every island will simultaneously monitor the water in their area and then compare their findings in an online database.

Volunteers will test the water from 9 to 11 a.m. next Saturday at Waimanalo Beach Park (meet at the lifeguard stand) and Kailua Beach Park (meet at the Kailua Canoe Club Hale).

You don't have to be an experienced water monitor to participate. An easy-to-use test kit will enable everyone regardless of age or experience to test water temperature, pH (acidity), turbidity (clarity) and dissolved oxygen.

Good Life Expo caters to seniors

Presentations on reverse mortgages, flu shot clinics and seminars on drug interactions are just a few options for seniors attending the Good Life Expo for Hawaii Seniors. The annual event features information on health plans, home care, delivery services, travel and more at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and tomorrow.

Hyatt offers Friday festivity

Aloha Friday celebrations at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa feature a colorful, cultural experience from 4:30 to 6 p.m. every Friday in the Great Hall of the Diamond Head Tower. The event kicks off with a 10-minute Tahitian drum solo followed by warrior chants. Fire dancers, lei making, hula lessons and Hawaiian food sampling follow, and participation is encouraged.
