Ching gets long-term deal

Determined to keep the face of the franchise around for the long term, the Dynamo have re-signed Hawaii native Brian Ching to a deal that will keep the MLS All-Star and U.S. national team forward in Houston through at least the 2013 season, the Houston Chronicle reported on its Web site.

Ching, 31, was under contract through next season, but the Dynamo decided to tear up that deal and secure his services for the next four years.

“;It's not something they do normally, so it shows they care and value me, which I'm really excited about,”; Ching said yesterday.

 

Baseball back in Hawaii?

XnE, Inc. announced yesterday it has bought the rights to own and operate minor league baseball teams in the entire state of Hawaii.

XnE and the Golden Baseball League have agreed to terms that would allow XnE to form four new teams throughout the entire islands.

XnE has already signed a lease with Maui County to play at the War Memorial Complex and is in talks with other islands to secure a stadium for the other three teams.

 

Hawaii shuts out Detroit-Mercy

Britta Bourne broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the second half to give Hawaii a 1-0 victory over Detroit-Mercy yesterday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Bourne's team-leading fifth goal of the season came in the 68th minute. Hawaii had 15 shots on goal to Detroit-Mercy's one.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-6-1) won their second straight, while the Titans fell to 2-6-1. The two teams play again tomorrow at 7 p.m.

 

Seasiders sweep Silverswords

Kylee Nawahine led BYU-Hawaii with 11 kills as the Seasiders defeated Chaminade 25-18, 25-23, 26-24 yesterday at Cannon Activities Center.

Chauntelle Maduli led all players with 13 kills for the Silverswords (1-11, 0-3). Setter Lacey Laycock had 29 assists to help BYU-Hawaii (4-7, 1-1) hit .217 for the match.

 

BYU-Hawaii soccer signs 2

The BYU-Hawaii men's basketball team added two more recruits Wednesday.

The Seasiders signed 6-foot-6 point guard Heath Gameren and 6-foot-4 guard El Akarri to a team that went 27-2 last season. Both are junior college transfers.
