Locking dogs in hot cars can kill them

Question: I saw a dog in a car parked in the hot sun. What should I do?
Answer: September is Hawaii's hottest month. Parked cars in the sun can elevate in temperature at an alarming rate even with the windows cracked.
If you believe the dog's life is threatened, call 911. Go immediately into nearby stores and ask for an announcement to be made to find the owner.
Keep in mind that a car parked in the shade can still heat up and heat stroke among dogs is not uncommon.
