Hawaii currently has the most votes in the nation to receive 50,000 free books in a First Book online contest.

First Book, a national literacy advocacy group, aims to get children hooked on reading by providing books to programs and schools serving low-income families that do not have access to age-appropriate books.

As of yesterday Hawaii held the No. 1 spot in the “;What Book Got You Hooked?”; contest, according to its Web site (http://www.hsblinks.com/ro).

People can vote once a day until 6 p.m. Hawaii time next Wednesday. To vote, go to hsblinks.com/rl; go to the box that asks where you want the books to be sent, find Hawaii and click on “;submit”;; that's the only requirement.

Results of the national vote will be published on the Web site in October.

First Book has delivered more than 65 million books to children in need across the U.S. and Canada for almost 20 years, its Web site said. Visitors can also register schools, day care centers and literacy programs serving a majority of needy children to get permanent access to free and low-cost books, and make donations or dedicate donations in someone's honor.
