Aerosmith to perform in October
POSTED: Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Aerosmith will finally make good on playing two concerts in Hawaii next month, after first canceling a Maui concert two years ago that resulted in a successful class-action lawsuit and then canceling the remainder of their summer tour this year due to injuries to lead singer Steven Tyler.
Promoter Tom Moffatt announced late yesterday afternoon that the rock band will be performing Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Blaisdell Arena and Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Maui War Memorial Stadium.
Tickets for the Honolulu show—costing $75, $95 and $195—will go on sale at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Blaisdell Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets at all Macy's locations, charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000 or online at http://www.ticketmaster.com.
Tickets priced at $65, $85 and $125 for the Maui show go on sale to Maui Arts & Cultural Center donors at 10 a.m. Saturday and then to the general public at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1. They will be available at the MACC box office, online at www. mauiarts.org or charge-by-phone at 242-7469.
The lawsuit's lead counsel, Brandee Faria, said yesterday after the concert announcement was made that the roughly 8,000 plaintiffs who sent back their claim forms can expect to receive their new tickets for either the Honolulu or Maui show soon in the mail. She also said administrators will in the next few weeks also be sending out reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses originally spent to attend the original 2007 Maui show, such as flight, hotel and car rental costs.
Plaintiffs from neighbor islands other than Oahu or Maui will also receive $100 travel credit to fly to the show of their choice.
The 61-year-old Tyler broke his left shoulder and needed 20 stitches in his head after falling off stage during a performance in Sturgis, S.D., on Aug. 5.
Jay Handlin of the local law firm Carlsmith Ball, who represented Aerosmith in the class-action suit, said last month that the band “;would honor the commitment (of playing on Maui) as soon as reasonably possible”; after Tyler's accident.
