Big Isle man charged following stabbing of 2

Big Island police charged a 41-year-old Ocean View man with attempted murder after a man and woman were stabbed in Captain Cook.

Sean Patrick Mitchell was being held yesterday on $106,000 bail for second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, and third-degree criminal property damage.

About 2 a.m. Saturday, Mitchell stabbed a 34-year-old Captain Cook man multiple times about the face and body and the man's 30-year-old girlfriend in the leg, Big Island police said. Both victims were released from the hospital.

Kauai brush fire burns 200 acres near beach

A brush fire scorched about 200 acres near Mahaulepu Beach on the south shore of Kauai.

The fire started about 10:30 a.m. yesterday on Grove Farm property and was under control by 5:30 p.m., said Kauai spokeswoman Mary Daubert in an e-mail.

No one was injured and no structures were damaged.

Waipahu man arrested following Waikiki brawl

A 21-year-old Waipahu man was charged yesterday with third-degree assault following a brawl in Waikiki.

Tristan Sealy, among 10 to 15 people, was caught on video surveillance punching and kicking a 35-year-old man in front of the Waikiki Trade Center at 3:55 a.m. Saturday.

The victim suffered bleeding in his brain and an orbital fracture to his right eye. Sealy was arrested at the scene and had to be restrained by several officers, police said. His bail was set at $1,000.

Driver allegedly hits bicyclist in Makaha

A 27-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he allegedly hit and critically injured a 47-year-old bicyclist in Makaha.

The man was driving a 1998 Saturn sedan around 2:50 a.m. yesterday on Keaau Homesteads Road when he hit the cyclist from behind, police said. The bicyclist sustained leg and other injuries and was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

Traffic investigators suspect speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Ewa Beach brush fire brings arson inquiry

Police opened an arson investigation into a brush fire in Ewa Beach.

Patrol officers noticed the fire behind a 7-Eleven store at 91-924 Makule Road about 12:30 a.m. yesterday. Police said four men were seen leaving the area.

Skydiving cameraman breaks leg at airfield

A skydiver broke his right leg at Dillingham Airfield.

At 10:11 a.m., Saturday paramedics responded to a report of an injured man in his 30s, said Bryan Cheplic, Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman. Paramedics took the man in serious condition to the hospital.

At the Pacific Skydiving Center, a man who answered the phone said the skydiver was a cameraman who broke his leg after encountering wind turbulence.
