Yet another team in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red East has learned a valuable lesson.

The big maroon wall of Farrington is unyielding. The Governors permitted only 67 yards of offense by Kailua in a 17-7 win last night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.

Fourth-ranked Farrington (5-0 overall) improved to 4-0 in league play and remains one of only two unbeaten teams in the Red East. The Governors did it with patience, rallying from a 7-0 halftime deficit.

“;Hats off to them. They stuck to their game plan and didn't panic,”; Kailua coach Gary Rosolowich said.

Harry Tuimaseve led the Govs with 144 rushing yards on 23 attempts. Fullback Siaosi Feleunga added 98 yards (11 carries) out of Farrington's I-formation sets.

Cornerback Alvin Faamausili saw action on offense, hauling in the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter.

“;When they need me, they call me over. I was trying to fake out the DB. I couldn't see my quarterback,”; said Faamausili, who thinks playing defense is more fun. “;The only thing I saw was the ball in the air. I knew I had to make that catch.”;

Kailua (2-4, 1-3) still has a shot at a playoff berth, especially after Roosevelt's loss to Kaimuki this weekend.

The Surfriders' defensive unit was stellar much of the way. Led by linebacker Calen Friel, Kailua shut down the Govs' offense for a half. Kailua broke a scoreless duel midway through the second quarter.

A fumble recovery by Kailua linebacker Charlie Arellano on a quick pass from Jared Hakuole to Scotland Smith gave Kailua the ball at Farrington's 22-yard line. Three plays later, Clinton Aina exploded down the left side on a draw for a 19-yard touchdown, and the Surfriders led 7-0 with 5:21 left in the first half.

Cornerback Nicholas Rosolowich also came up with a turnover, picking off a Hakuole pass at Kailua's 26-yard line with 1 minute to go before intermission.

The first half also brought bad news for Kailua. Friel, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound senior, went down with a knee injury and did not return.

Farrington kept pounding away and drove 56 yards in 11 plays to start the second half. Hakuole tossed key completions to Benjamin Malufau and Sammy Park before Tuimaseve plunged over the goal line from a yard out to tie the game at 7 with 7:32 to go in the third.

In addition to Friel, Kailua lost linebacker Martin Lagazo to a shoulder or neck injury in the fourth quarter. He was transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

Na Menehune's Michael Egami returned the first kickoff for an 80-yard touchdown in a blowout of the Falcons. Moanalua scored all of its points in the first half, starting with a 34-point opening quarter.

Tahje Canyon, Kevin Amaral and Lowen Oliveros ran in touchdowns for the Na Menehune, followed by a 27-yard TD pass from Adam Francisco to Egami.

In the second quarter, Donovan Wimberly took advantage of a Kalani fumble on the 1-yard line for another score.

Moanalua leads the OIA White with an undefeated conference record at 5-0.
