Fight leaves man critically hurt

Seven people, including three women and a juvenile girl, were arrested early Saturday morning after a fight that critically injured a 25-year-old man in Waipahu.

At about 11:20 p.m. Friday, police said, a woman was struck during an argument, which prompted another group of people to get involved in the fight.

A 25-year-old man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after the fight, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Three men ages 19, 20 and 26, and three women ages 19, 25 and 45, and a juvenile girl were arrested in the Pupupuhi Street area.

The adults, from Waipahu and Kapolei, were booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.

Police did not release information on the juvenile's arrest.

Man indicted in death of 5-year-old girl

HILO» A Big Island man accused of raping and murdering the 5-year-old daughter of his girlfriend has been indicted by a Hilo grand jury.

The indictment last week of 30-year-old Anthony Serges Poulin last week means his case will move from South Hilo District Court to Hilo Circuit Court.

A preliminary hearing had been scheduled for Oct. 13, but will likely be changed.

Poulin also is scheduled to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the request of his attorney.

Poulin is being held on $1 million bail. A call seeking comment from his attorney was not immediately returned.

Javieanne Win was pronounced dead Sept. 6 after police and paramedics responded to a call of an unresponsive child in a filled bathtub.

The girl's funeral was scheduled for yesterday.

Oahu firefighters busy rescuing scuba divers

Firefighters rescued yesterday a scuba diver at Maunalua Bay and two others at the Lanai Lookout in East Oahu, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

About 10:10 a.m., a distressed diver in her mid-20s was brought back to shore from Maunalua Bay aboard the dive boat Sea Fox. Firefighters escorted the Sea Fox into Hawaii Kai Marina and transferred the woman to paramedics.

About an hour later, firefighters responded to three scuba divers in distress offshore of Lanai Lookout. A fire helicopter picked up a man and a woman in their 20s and brought them back to shore. The third diver, also in his 20s, climbed onto a ledge and didn't need assistance.

Kalihi man, 42, robbed while repairing vehicle

Police are looking for two gunmen in their 20s who robbed a 42-year-old man Friday night in Kalihi.

About 10:25 p.m., the victim was repairing his vehicle when the suspects appeared, brandishing a pistol, and demanded money, police said.

When the man refused, a struggle ensued, and the suspects tied up the man and took money from his pocket, police said.

Police suspect arson in Big Isle post office fire

Big Island fire investigators believe a fire yesterday morning at the Volcano Village post office may have been intentionally set.

Firefighters, responding to an alarm at 2:27 a.m., saw smoke coming from the post office when they arrived.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes and estimated damages at $15,000.

Investigators said the fire was suspicious because a window on the building had been pried open before firefighters arrived.

Police arrest man for alleged harassment

A 43-year-old man who allegedly threatened a principal at a school in Kaimuki was arrested by police Friday.

The principal, a 42-year-old woman, noticed the man loitering on the campus of the Hawaii School for the Deaf and the Blind on Leahi Avenue at about 1:50 p.m. Friday, police said. When she asked him to leave, the man allegedly threatened her and left in a vehicle.

Police found the man and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening. He was later charged with harassment and was released on $200 bail.
