SOS account exceeds $800K

Donations to help high school athletic programs now total more than $810,000, according to Hawaii High School Athletic Association executive director Keith Amemiya.

The HHSAA SOS account began collecting donations about two months ago. Amemiya's goal is to reach $1.2 million, the amount that was cut from public-school athletics by the state in early summer.

“;We're obviously very pleased with the support thus far and hope that it continues until we reach our goal,”; Amemiya said.

Scoring for athletics

The ninth annual Shop and Score program to benefit high school athletic programs is under way.

Shoppers at Times Supermarkets who buy Kraft Foods items can help their favorite high school program receive funding for free athletic equipment and uniforms. Last year's top recipient was Mililani, which got more than $14,000 in gear.

Open to public and private school athletic programs, the contest ends Oct. 6.

Jr. 'Bows out of cafeteria

The University High girls volleyball team is back on the hardwood of Klum Gym.

After losing practice time there due to UH's busy schedule, the Junior Rainbows are practicing at Klum several times a week again.

University had been practicing on an outside court and in their cafeteria.
