Powers moves to fourth round
Kauai's Roy Powers advanced to the fourth round of the Hurley Pro surf contest at Trestles in San Clemente, Calif., yesterday.
Powers won his heats in the second and third rounds.
In the third round, Powers beat fellow Hawaii surfer Fred Patacchia, 13.06 to 12.00.
Hawaii surfer Dustin Barca was eliminated in a second-round loss.

UH-Hilo women's soccer defeats Chaminade
Gina Tumasone, Alysia Salvador and Chelsea Gomez scored goals to give Hawaii-Hilo a 3-0 victory over Chaminade in women's soccer yesterday in Honolulu.
The Vulcans (1-4-1) peppered the Silverswords with 28 shots.
Marissa Minor made eight saves for Chaminade (0-3).
» Hawaii Pacific midfielder Jim Terry is the PacWest's men's soccer player of the week.
Terry led the Sea Warriors to the Hawaii Cup Challenge championship last weekend.
He had a game-winning goal and an assist in a 3-1 semifinal triumph over Chaminade.
In the title game, Terry set up the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Hawaii-Hilo.
BYUH's McMaster picked as the best of the week
Brigham Young-Hawaii senior Brendan McMaster is the PacWest's men's cross country runner of the week.
McMaster won individual honors in the Hawaii Pacific Invitational at Kualoa Ranch on Sept. 5.
