Photos of Makua in French exhibit
Six of Hawaii photographer Jan Becket's images of Makua, originally displayed at a show at Honolulu Hale last year, are being included in Photoquai 2009, a French photography exhibit held biennially in Paris. Becket is the only American in the show featuring 50 photographers from around the world.
Becket visited Makua from 2005 to 2007, saying in a 2007 interview that the site was interesting for its contrast of natural beauty and military sites.
“;The past and present are bumping up against each other,”; he said.
Photoquai 2009 is housed along the banks of the Seine, below the Eiffel Tower, just outside Quai Branly Museum.
