ROME » Former University of Hawaii volleyball player Kim Willoughby has received a two-year suspension from the Italian Olympic Committee for a doping offense.
Willoughby tested positive for nandrolone after a match for her Italian team Perugia in April 2009. She played on the U.S. team that won the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics last summer.
The suspension announced yesterday runs until July 10, 2011.
The outside hitter from Napoleonville, La., played for the UH from 2000 to 2003. She was a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-American and earned player of the year honors in 2003.
Yesterday's announcement is the latest trouble for Willoughby who in July was sentenced to five years' probation for second-degree assault by a Honolulu judge.
