Local entertainer Andy Bumatai has pleaded guilty to five counts of willful failure to file tax returns for 2002 through 2006, the state said yesterday.
District Judge Faye Koyanagi ordered Bumatai last week to pay a $2,500 fine and perform 300 hours of community service. He was also granted a deferral of his plea, meaning the of-fenses will be purged from his record if he satisfies the condition of his probation.
Bumatai paid the delinquent taxes before he was sentenced Sept. 3, keeping the amount private, a state tax investigator said.
He faced a maximum penalty of up to $25,000 per violation and one year in prison.
