Auntie hopes others escape slain girl's fate

A relative of a 5-year-old Hilo girl who was sexually assaulted and drowned, allegedly by her mother's boyfriend, said she is still in disbelief at the child's death.
“;I just pray this doesn't happen to anybody else,”; said Adeline Makuakane, the great-aunt of Javieanne Win. “;There's no reason to do something like that.”;
Win, who attended first grade at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School, lived with her mother, Jennifer Abiley, and Abiley's boyfriend, Anthony S. Poulin.
Win was going to turn 6 in November.
The three moved into the Hilo Val-Hala apartments a few months ago, and Poulin, who is disabled and unemployed, was in charge of taking care of Win while Abiley was at work as a certified nursing assistant, according to Makuakane and police.
Poulin, 30, charged with sexually assaulting and drowning Win in their apartment bathtub Sunday afternoon, was scheduled to appear in South Hilo District Court at 1 p.m. today for a preliminary hearing.
Makuakane said Win's family is grieving, trying to cope with the loss and doing the best they can.
Abiley is staying at her parents' home, and Win's father, who lives in Honolulu, arrived on the Big Island earlier this week, Makuakane said.
Makuakane said family and relatives are seeking donations to pay for Win's funeral services.
