Torres believes in special teams
It wasn't a totally happy night for the Kahuku football team when the Red Raiders beat Roosevelt last Friday. Defensive lineman Kona Schwenke was ejected after an incident away from the ball during a kickoff. Some fans wondered why a starter was playing on special teams.
“;We treat special teams like offense and defense,”; Torres said. “;You have to put importance on it. Last year we gave up too much yardage on special teams.
“;Against Mililani, Taz (Dalaunte Stevenson) almost scored on us twice. We had to clean it up.”;
Second-ranked Kahuku has a bye this week, as does No. 1 Saint Louis.
Jr. 'Bows have limited gym time
The University High girls volleyball team is in the running for another Division II state berth, but the hurdles this season are higher.
Access to their usual practice facility — the University of Hawaii's Klum Gym — has been limited.
“;We've practiced outside and in our cafeteria,”; coach Walter Quitan said. “;We don't have the budget for (renting a gym).”;
